Biography & Metadata
**Monroe Alfrey** is an American songwriter, singer, and bassist from Peru, Indiana, whose work spans family-friendly children’s music and contemporary folk/country. He began writing songs around age seven, initially trying to impress a babysitter (it didn’t work, but it sparked a lifelong pursuit of crafting strong songs). His performing career started in junior high as the bass player for the band MARZ; the bass has remained his instrument of choice ever since. After the birth of his son Simon in the early 1990s, Alfrey—then working full-time as a plumber—began writing original children’s songs for him. Encouraged by family and friends, he recorded and released the 10-song album *Simon’s Pond* (around 1996. Fan favorites include “Daddy’s Tools,” “Love, Hugs and Kisses,” “Whimsical Dr. Imsical,” and “The Monkey and the Lion.” Alfrey donated album copies to Riley Hospital for Children. In more recent years, Alfrey has drawn inspiration from folk and country artists such as Ray LaMontagne, Buck Owens, and Chris Stapleton. He has released a series of independent singles (primarily 2025–2026) including “If Ever,” “Your Disguise,” “The Happiest Man I Know,” “100 Kisses,” “Angels in Our Arms,” “Engine 82,” “Between Seattle and Something Else,” “Good Enough for Me,” “I Surrender,” and others. He serves as the primary lyricist and songwriter on these newer tracks and has noted using AI tools to help realize the full productions. Alfrey’s music is available on all platforms.
