Blu Miles

Blu Miles was raised from the country roads outside of Lawrence, KS to the luscious moss filled forests of Portland, OR. A piece of both have always remained his home. Their inquisition for music, and natural curiosity, has pushed him to many new places and allowed for musical projects to find him in every arena they’ve entered. From indie bands in their youth, neo soul rap groups in college, and a brief stint in a Bolivian folk band. They currently collaborate with classical ambient artist ann annie and play bass in the Portland rock band Jonny’s Day Out. This most recent collaboration with Alaskan Tapes is their first time releasing music under their own name. Blu was not classical trained on the saxophone nor does he claim to have a deep mastery of any aspect of the instrument. Their story with the saxophone began as a challenge to learn something completely from scratch without any prior insight. This led to him playing with the mouth piece upside down for the first month of practice, but it also allowed him to approach the instrument in a uniquely grounded way. The constraints of technical ability making way for a wonderfully simplistic yet complete sound.
