Ivor Novello-nominated Amahla has a singular voice. Her talents earned her an early mentor in Nile Rodgers of CHIC, extensive critical acclaim, and a devoted following. Rooted in jazz, Amahla’s voice moves through jazz, soul, R&B, and folk, a range that echoes the great solo female vocalists of the past. Raised in a Guyanese household in East London, she began songwriting on guitar and piano, learning to lead live bands. Few know Amahla's spent most of her 20's as a young adult carer for a relative living with Alzheimer's, an experience that shapes the depth and purpose behind her voice. That depth found its fullest expression in her jazz ballad "Enough." Released in three languages, it went viral as an anthem for peace on TikTok, capturing the exhaustion of witnessing injustice while still being asked to wait for change. 2024 became a breakthrough year: two EPs, 'Ooooh Honey!' and 'Enough: The Collection,' her first headline UK tour, and a Royal Albert Hall commission for the live performance film 'Ooooh Honey! LIVE!', released the following year. Now signed to Idris Elba's label 7Wallace/Mass Appeal, Amahla returns in 2026 as executive producer and creative director of her first full length project, finally equipped with the backing to bring her vision to life. In an era often criticised for lacking substance, she carries the torch of the Black vocalists who sing profoundly about their relationship with the world.
