Alexander Lloyd Blake

Dr. Alexander Lloyd Blake is a conductor, composer, arranger, and vocal contractor based in Los Angeles. His large-scale choral work Running From, Running To: A Musical Reflection on Ahmaud Arbery, co-written with Ogi and created with Ahmaud's mother Wanda Cooper-Jones, is the centerpiece of Songs of Remembering: In Memory of Ahmaud "Quez" Arbery, released February 2026 on Bright Shiny Things. The piece extends the passion tradition into secular memorial, written for people killed by injustice and made with the families who loved them. Blake is the Founding Artistic Director of Tonality, the two-time GRAMMY Award-winning choral ensemble built around unity, peace, and social justice through culturally diverse programming. He is personally GRAMMY-nominated as co-arranger of Scott Hoying's "Rose Without the Thorns," featuring Tonality and säje. His arranging and conducting credits include work for film, television, and national broadcast. As an arranger, his "Wade in the Water" is published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, with "Deep River" on Alliance Music Publishing and "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" on Walton Music. Named to Musical America's 30 Professionals of the Year and awarded Chorus America's Louis Botto Award, Blake has been featured in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times. He holds a doctorate in choral conducting from USC.
