Biography & Metadata
Mezanmi (pronounced ‘mes amis’) is the musical project of Fran O’Hanlon, a Newcastle-born, London-based artist and composer. His 2024 debut album Always Upwards blends ambient folk with an electronic and experimental edge, featuring cinematic strings, stirring rhythms, and ethereal synths. Produced with double-Grammy Award-winning Guy Massey, the album includes notable collaborations with Jessie Buckley, Sandrayati, and Kieran Brunt. With support from BBC 6Music, BBC Introducing, RTÉ, Radio X, and Selector Radio, and praise from online tastemakers like Gold Flake Paint and culture mags like NARC (5/5) and Outside Left (5/5)., Mezanmi’s first live outings included standout performances at Cambridge Folk Festival and opening for Bernard Butler, Erland Cooper, Sandrayati and Katy Kirby. He also headlined shows across the UK, sharing stages with artists such as Sophie Jamieson, Paul Thomas Saunders and Ailsa Tully. Alongside the release of new music and live shows this year, O'Hanlon continues to compose for film and television, most recently scoring the award-winning short film "We/US".
