Biography & Metadata

Skai Eriksson is the musical moniker of Erik Lundberg, professor of Mathematics with a passion for music composition. Growing up in a musical family in the Florida keys, where both parents worked as musicians in the entertainment business, his grandmother taught him to play piano from an early age. Though he entered an academic career in mathematics (currently a professor at Florida Atlantic University), music has remained a constant creative pursuit. After initially releasing music on SoundCloud, Skai Eriksson was invited in the Summer of 2024 to collaborate with Helen Green on several original piano compositions inspired by the guitar instrumentals of Fin Moon. A lover of all string instruments, and the guitar in particular, Erik enjoys the process of reimagining guitar works on the piano, where the relative freedoms and limitations of the two instruments compare and contrast favorably to promote a natural creative process. In another direction of neoclassical music inspired by the romantic era, Skai Eriksson released in 2025 the album "Of Cloudless Climes and Starry Skies" in collaboration with Playing To Pitch In (all streaming royalties are donated to charity) . Erik finds that music composition and mathematical research have eerie similarities, particularly in their capacity to absorb completely the mind and stretch to their respective limits both complementary faculties of intuition and analytical thinking.
