Biography & Metadata
Blackbird Static is a UK-based independent music project making melodic alternative pop with a dark sense of humour and a habit of poking at things that would probably rather be left alone. The sound moves between synth-pop, indie rock, electronic textures, piano and guitar-led songwriting, but melody always comes first. The songs tend to start somewhere accessible, then wander towards unease, regret, politics, private disasters and people trying very hard to sound fine. The six-track EP Protest Songs arrived in October 2026, led by Lipstick on a Pig. Written from a distinctly British perspective and timed for the run-up to the US midterms, it takes aim at political spin, populism, image-management and the increasingly absurd effort required to make the indefensible look respectable. Previous releases include the albums Whatever and Hours, alongside singles including Falling, Huge Love, Whatever and Pull Me Back. Blackbird Static has performed in Birmingham, Sheffield, Bruges and Amsterdam, bringing the project’s mix of melody, unease and emotional restraint into real rooms as well as recordings. The next chapter is What Beats Within, a record that starts in cleaner, more immediate pop and gradually falls somewhere stranger, more fragile and more human.
