Mystalgia

Mystalgia is a project built at the intersection of music, memory, and visual storytelling. Formed by Ryan Housley and Christian Reilly, the project grew out of a shared creative background that spans photography, cinema, and songwriting. What started as separate passions eventually converged into a sound focused less on genre and more on atmosphere and emotion. Their music lives in a bittersweet space, drawing from nostalgia, distance, and escapism. It’s not about recreating specific moments, but about the feeling of looking back on them. The name Mystalgia reflects that balance, combining mystique and nostalgia to describe music that feels familiar yet slightly out of reach. Heavily influenced by film and visual culture, Mystalgia approaches music the way a filmmaker approaches a scene. The goal is to create a world listeners can step into, where sound carries the same weight and emotional pull as imagery. Inspired by artists and composers like Said The Sky, EMBRZ , and Hans Zimmer, as well as the cinematic language of directors like Christopher Nolan and A24 films, their songs feel expansive, reflective, and quietly immersive. Mystalgia is ultimately about creating space. Space to reflect, to escape, and to project your own meaning onto the music.
