With Astrid Lykke, Johannes Johansson is reimagining fantasy-themed soundtracks in a folky, medieval way, using traditional instruments such as the flute, which remains the lead instrument throughout much of the project. What started as a mostly solo flute project gradually developed into more cinematic, soundscape-like arrangements. More recently, Johannes has started to introduce subtle orchestration around the melodies, adding soft strings and gentle cinematic textures without taking away from their traditional feel. The result sits somewhere between Celtic folk, medieval music and a quiet fantasy soundtrack — intimate and natural, but with a little more depth and atmosphere than before.
