Arabic melodies with both an English and African twist have found him his own niche - Arabic swing; complete with its stirrings of afro wave and UK rap, it’s a sound he’s been elevating to new heights over the past few years. Born in Manchester, it was in his ancestral climes of Algeria that Geko found his spiritual home. His North African heritage is central to his sound. And while the landscape for generation Z has steadily bleakened, Geko aims to restore some Mancunian charged uplift when he touches the mic. While his life too features loss, challenges and daily battles, it’s choosing to focus on a vibe that allows him to perform with a smile on his face that drives Geko, music his true therapy with his home studio ready to bear witness 24-7. Now a decade deep in the industry, with mixing and mastering skills added to his repertoire, spreading his sound to a growing international audience is high on Geko’s agenda as he looks to the future. “Anyone who’s seen a video, or a stage show will know that’s me when I’m most alive. When I’m performing, it’s like there’s a mirror in front of me and that’s all I see. And I never remember what’s happened in those moments, I’m so fully in it. I want everyone to release, have a good time with my music not get depressed.”
