Biography & Metadata

Shukei Tamaoki and Seijun Kato both come from Hachijo-jima (an island 287 km off of Tokyo, and also a part of Tokyo), and while in college (in mainland Tokyo) they met Ayako Takeda and Yutaka Yanagisawa.
As a result, though their foundation is pop, their music has a diverse cultural feel, their melodies taking unexpected twists and turns with lyrics filled with unique word plays. Their music is free and borderless, transcending genres and nationalities.
In March 2017 they released their debut album "Jinsei, Yamaori Taniori" from P-VINE Records. In August the same year, they participated in the Petrolz cover project entitled "WHERE, WHO, WHAT IS PETROLZ?? - EP." In December 2017 "Jinsei, Yamaori Taniori" was released as a vinyl + ZINE. Their release party at Shibuya WWW "Tenkaichi Butoukai" was sold out.
MONO NO AWARE performed at one of the main stages at Fuji Rock Festival 2017, after being selected by popular vote at Fuji Rock’s “ROOKIE A GO-GO” the previous year. As their debut album ”Jinsei, Yamaori Taniori” garnered praise from all corners, they have continued to perform at various music festivals, including VIVA LA ROCK 2018 and Baycamp. They have also been the opening act for international artists like The Cribs and Fazerdaze, and are gaining attention as the “next generation” rock band. http://mono-no-aware.jp/
