Biography & Metadata
From their striking 1995 debut, released internationally by 4AD as 1997’s Polydistortion, through a series of acclaimed albums that have included the pop-tinged, electronic-infused bliss of 1999’s This Normal; the soulful atmospheres of 2002’s Attention; 2011’s evocative, modern dance music masterpiece The Arabian Horse, which saw Högni Egilsson of the Icelandic indie group Hjaltalín join the band; the introspective of Lies Are More Flexible in 2011 which boasted John Grant as a backing vocalist; 2021’s Mobile Home which proved to a creative cauldron, bubbling with New Wave grooves; and the communal euphoria of their last album, 2023’s rave imbued Danceorama, GusGus have consistently ventured down dance music’s unexplored avenues, uniquely combining the verve of an experiment act with the scope of an act who are now a key inspiration for many of their fellow electronic visionaries. With Biggi, and fellow founder Daníel and joined since 2020 by Margrét Rán – leader of the Icelandic band Vök, – GusGus’ new material continues this singular and unique story while casting bold, brand new chapters that resolutely reach beyond electronic music’s current horizons.
