Esther Yoo

Praised for her profound depth of expression, freshness of interpretation, and dazzling technique, Esther Yoo is unquestionably one of the world’s leading violinists. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Munich Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Melbourne Symphony and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as at Lincoln Center, Royal Albert Hall, Aspen Music Festival, Prague Spring Festival and the BBC Proms. Conductor collaborations include Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Tugan Sokhiev, Myung-Whun Chung, Vasily Petrenko, Lahav Shani, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Dalia Stasevska and Karina Canellakis. Esther appears in recital and as a founding member of Z.E.N. Trio, with whom she has toured internationally and released two albums on Deutsche Grammophon(DG). Her acclaimed discography on DG includes Love Symposium with Long Yu and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and recordings of Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Bruch and Barber Concertos. She appears on the On Chesil Beach soundtrack and pianist Chad Lawson’s album breathe (both Decca). Esther was the youngest prizewinner of the International Sibelius Competition (2010) and Queen Elisabeth Competition (2012), and one of Classic FM’s Top 30 Artists under 30 (2018). Alongside her vibrant performing career, she is a Professor of Violin at the Royal College of Music.
