Athian Akec

Athian Akec is a 20 year old Londoner whose work is defined by its multi-dimensionality ranging from sitting on the board of a racial justice organization to guest lecturing at London Metropolitan University to being featured on Loyle Carner’s latest album “Hugo”. Athian has spoken in the House of Commons as a member of the UK Youth Parliament on the root causes of knife crime, has written for national newspapers such as the Guardian on diversity in the climate movement and Esquire on decolonising the curriculum. Much of Athian’s latest work is focused on reimagining society as seen in his TV coverage on AlJazeera Generation Change, challenging notions of Black excellence in his 2021 essay in the “Black Joy collection” and using Black history as a tool for liberation highlighted in “ Celebrating heritage series” which highlighted the importance of remembering forgotten Black British history.
