Biography & Metadata

Faelris is an epic doom metal band from Saguenay, Québec, founded in 2021 by Jean-Raphaël Couillard. Blending doom, symphonic, progressive and neoclassical metal, the band combines heavy melodic guitars, rich orchestration and dark atmospheres. Influenced by Wintersun, While Heaven Wept, Anathema, Katatonia and Ensiferum, Faelris is known for its long, evolving compositions, emotional depth and storytelling approach. Its lyrics explore war, tragedy, love, suffering, hope, spirituality and the darker aspects of human nature, aiming to create an immersive emotional journey. The name Faelris combines elements of the founder’s name, faerie folklore and Fenris from Norse mythology. The debut album, The Circle of Iron (2021), focuses on the cycle of war, while The Black Book of Sorrow (2024) explores heartbreak, existential suffering and social criticism. Both albums were remixed in 2025, followed by Faelris Arcade (2026), which reimagines the band’s music in an arcade-inspired style. Originally a solo project, Faelris became a duo in 2025 with the addition of lead guitarist and harsh vocalist Matéo Gautié. The band is currently working on a new concept album about the history of humanity, expanding its epic, symphonic and progressive sound while remaining focused on powerful melodies and deep emotion.
