Coconut Shy

Singer/Songwriter Joseph Mackey came together with bassist Dylan Noble, lead guitarist Timothy Chivers and drummer Matthew Meehan-Lam to form indie/folk alt-rock outfit Coconut Shy in 2025. Beginning as a solo project, the act was a one-man show in its early years as Mackey surfed a Naarm/Melbourne live music scene just beginning to find its feet post-Covid. By ‘24, Mackey decided to bring the gazillion songs he had written in his bedroom to life with a full-fledged fourpiece - and that’s exactly what he found. There’s soft acoustic guitar, introspective lyrics and catchy choruses. It’s music made for those who love a singalong around a campfire, a soundtrack for the roadtrip or an afternoon spent indoors on a rainy day. It’s giving the guitar a hug instead of smashing it on the stage floor.
