Seventeen Excuses

After a couple of decades of playing guitar, residing in three different states, and performing in a handful of bands, Nate started writing/recording songs for a solo acoustic project resulting in Seventeen Excuses. Formerly on guitar and vocals in Longview, Washington local pop punk band HFT (1998-2001), Nate continued on with drummer Brad Pettit in the band Bored Beyond Belief in Phoenix, AZ from 2001-2002. After a few years between bands the “solo” project began around 2009 when writing what would become the first Seventeen Excuses song, “Overslept”. Relocating back to the Pacific Northwest in early 2013, Seventeen Excuses became the musical focal point. Starting out as stripped down acoustic demos, the songs took a bigger shape in the recording process and the end result was The EP, Right Back Where I Started which came out sounding a little more “full band” on select tracks. In the summer of 2020 the follow up 4 song EP Orange County Sunsets was released. In 2021 Seventeen Excuses teamed up with members of Broadway Calls for a Jawbreaker cover of the classic “Do You Still Hate Me?” Influences range from Johnny Cash to The Clash , Merle Haggard to Madonna , Buck Owens to Billy Joel and beyond. *For fans of Rhett Miller, Chuck Ragan, Joey Cape, Drag The River, Broadway Calls, Jawbreaker, Greg Rekus, Kevin Seconds, Seth Anderson, The Replacements, The Refreshments, Sundowner, Cory Branan, Divided Heaven, Sam Russo, Jon Snodgrass etc.
