Biography & Metadata

Zula Queen makes Brazilian music for people who have had to find themselves again. Brazilian-born and Tampa-based, Zula moves between MPB, samba and contemporary singer-songwriter music, pairing poetic storytelling with a sound rooted in Brazil and shaped by a life between cultures. Her songs explore love, identity, resilience, desire and the courage to remain yourself when life asks you to become someone else. After years spent building a life, raising her son and creating the stability to pursue music on her terms, Zula stepped forward with songs that had been waiting for their moment. Family is woven into the project. Alongside her own compositions, Zula gives voice to songs written by her mother, poet and songwriter Cléo Delfino, while producer and multi-instrumentalist Chuy Martins helps shape their musical world. At the center of Zula’s universe is Zula Moons, connecting songs through lunar phases as emotional chapters of love, longing, identity, transformation and reconstruction. From the defiance of “Linha de Frente” to the vulnerability of “Come Back,” the tenderness of “Prelúdio de Saudades,” the self-possession of “Mesmo Assim (Eu),” and the joyful freedom of “Sandália de Prata,” Zula moves between strength and intimacy while returning to one idea: the possibility of becoming yourself again. Building a musical bridge between Brazil and the United States, Zula Queen creates songs for those still becoming. Different moons. Different chapters. The same Zula.
