Mathew Nicholas Montalvo, also known as Matt M, is a rapper and producer from San Benito, Texas. Before Montalvo started pursuing music, he was just a fan. He started to write music when he graduated high school, before that his life revolved around sports. Although music was always around him, Montalvo never saw himself creating his own music. When he turned eighteen, his uncle had the equipment to help Montalvo record his music. That’s when his older brother threw shows and provided Montalvo with slots to perform, and his little brother taught him how to make beats. His family helped him establish himself and begin his career. Like most artists, Montalvo was inspired by the creators before him. Drake had a huge role in Montalvo’s consideration in rapping because Drake was the first rapper he heard that wasn't rapping about the streets. He is also influenced by J. Cole, Mac Miller, Anderson Pac, Sir, Kendrick Lamar, Boogie, SZA, Lauren Hill, The Internet, Lute, JID, Bas, Nas, Wale, and more. When Montalvo was younger, he admits he allowed a lot of people’s opinions to change the direction of his career path. When it came time to make music, he told himself that he would never allow anyone to try to stop him from pursuing it.
