KwolleM, one of the founding fathers of ‘Mellow Grime’ returns after a far too lengthy absence from his previous album ‘c2c;’ for what is a continuation & further mastery of the genre in his latest work - MELO LP. What makes the project special is that he is no longer just a founding father, but an actual father too. Melo, the name of KwolleM’s daughter, is the cornerstone of this LP & also executive producer. I can confirm however that she did absolutely nothing other than poop a lot during the process of its production. With the sonics of what it would sound like if there was a Lord Of The Mics in St Pauls Cathedral; as we have come to expect from KwolleM. This album is lathered with beautiful jazz and soul samples held together by drums and percussion the likes of Skepta and Wiley would be proud of. Of course, it would not be a MellowK backwards album without features from a collection of people Florentino Pérez would have attempted to assemble given the opportunity. The grime galacticos include mainstays like Joe James, Rayf & DC. Alongside new, yet marquee recruits - AJ Tracey, Novelist, Unknown T, SL as well as veterans in their own rights, Ghostpoet & Tinchy Stryder. As a wise man once said - ‘A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.’ It is of absolutely no relevance here but I couldn’t think of a good way to end this.
