Antony Pitts is a visionary composer, conductor, sound designer, and creative leader whose work bridges sacred tradition and contemporary expression. A former Chapel Royal chorister and New College Oxford scholar, he later became a BBC Senior Producer, Senior Lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music, and Artistic Director of The Song Company in Australia. He is the founder of Tonus Peregrinus and TONUS AUSTRALIS, and the inaugural William Byrd Fellow at Excelsia University College. Known for his radical programming and immersive, historically informed performance style, he also works with Indigenous creatives and emerging artists across genres and continents. Pitts has received the Prix Italia, the Radio Academy BT Award, and the Cannes Classical Award for his recording of Pärt: Passio (St. John Passion), and is known for radical programming, acoustic art, and powerful choral works including XL, the 40-part companion to Tallis’s Spem in alium, the oratorio Jerusalem-Yerushalayim, and Requiem for the Time of the End, completed in 2025. Published by Faber Music and 1equalmusic, his recordings appear on Hyperion, Naxos, Delphian, Challenge, and Harmonia Mundi, with premieres at the Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, and the Sydney Opera House.
