Biography & Metadata
For Barasuara, it’s always been all about the music. It’s what gradually brought together the diverse interests and influences of guitarist Tj Kusuma, drummer Marco Steffiano, bassist Gerald Situmorang and singers Asteriska and Puti Chitara to flesh out the handful of song drafts that vocalist-guitarist Iga Massardi presented to them. It’s what led them to patiently work on their music for the better part of two years before finally making their live debut in 2014. After their 2015 debut album Taifun put the Jakarta rock band firmly on the Indonesian music map thanks to their explosive live shows and evocative songs, Barasuara have consistently released award-winning widescreen works of power and grace as evidenced by 2019’s sophomore offering Pikiran dan Perjalanan and 2024’s third record Jalaran Sadrah. They’ve opened for Tame Impala, collaborated with orchestral maestro Erwin Gutawa and inspired the next generation of Indonesian bands such as .Feast and Lomba Sihir. After the band experienced a huge surge in popularity thanks to the inclusion of Terbuang dalam Waktu and Pancarona in the 2025 film Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan, Barasuara have now entered the latest phase of their journey by releasing Sementara, the first single of what will be their upcoming fourth album. Still striving for new sounds and new ways of working after 14 years of highs and lows, one thing still remains true for Barasuara: it’s all about the music.
