Biography & Metadata
Since releasing her debut project at age 15, the Chicago-bred singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist BONZIE has reached an extraordinary level of success for an independent musician, including earning abundant critical acclaim from the likes of The New York Times (“A career that has yielded richly melodic and mysterious songs.” wrote Chief Pop Music Critic Jon Pareles) and NPR (deemed “Brilliantly talented.” by Tiny Desk Concert founder Bob Boilen). Fully produced by BONZIE—who also served as the sole writer on every song and played a variety of instruments throughout the album—When I Found The Trap Door further expands her infinitely shapeshifting and singular artistry. In creating her fourth full-length, BONZIE dreamed up each decidedly minimalist yet exquisitely detailed track at famed facilities like Hollywood’s EastWest Studios (where she recorded a full orchestra led by conductor Anthony Parnther, who’s contributed to the scores to such films as Black Panther), then joined forces with legendary mixing engineer Michael Brauer (the multi-Grammy-winner known for his work with Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, and more). Earning critical praise from Paste, SPIN, Vogue, American Songwriter, Brooklyn Vegan and more, When I Found The Trap Door was also featured in “Find Your Favorite Songs of 2024” by The New York Times, and highlighted in The Playlist by Chief Pop Music Critic Jon Pareles.
