Biography & Metadata

Selah Sue is a Belgian artist whose signature sound bridges soul, R&B, jazz, and alternative pop with a deeply expressive voice and emotional honesty. Emerging in the early 2010s, she quickly became one of Europe’s most compelling voices, drawing comparisons to artists like Erykah Badu, while resonating with fans of Tom Misch, Ezra Collective, and Jordan Rakei. Born Sanne Putseys in Leuven, Belgium, Selah Sue began making music as a teenager, developing a unique sonic identity shaped by soul, hip-hop, funk, and reggae influences. Her breakout came with her self-titled debut album in 2011, a multi-platinum success that established her across Europe with standout tracks like “This World” and “Crazy Vibes.” Her ability to move seamlessly between genres led to collaborations with international artists including Childish Gambino and Cee-Lo Green, as well as early support from Prince. Her 2015 album Reason confirmed her status as a major European artist, blending groove-driven production with introspective songwriting. After a period of reflection, Selah Sue returned with Persona (2022), a more intimate and exploratory project influenced by neo-soul, alternative R&B. Continuing to evolve her sound, Selah Sue expands her musical universe in 2026 with a collaboration alongside The Gallands on the album Movin’. The project leans into a modern blend of neo-soul, groove, and organic production, further connecting her to a new generation of listeners and to the global scene.
