Biography & Metadata
Crosstown Chameleons is a long-running, Miami-based rock band built around the eclectic songwriting of each of the four members. Their hard-to-pigeonhole sound merges elements of folk, pop, funk, and grunge. Rob Kayes, Will Montgomery, Bill Scherer, and Gabe Stivala met while students at the University of Miami. As individuals they had unique tastes, but shared a mutual openness and natural curiosity about music. The band’s chemistry immediately became apparent after a few jam sessions, and soon they were performing all over South Florida. After steadily building a fan base, they released their debut album, Going to Eden, Brother, in 1995. Since that debut, Crosstown Chameleons has evolved at a dizzying pace, building a strong online presence while constantly working on new songs. After decades refining their style, they released Plato’s Stepchildren in 2018, praised by critics for its “endlessly expressive songwriting” and “stunning vocals.” Building on the momentum of their previous success, they have followed up quickly with their new release, Whom Gods Destroy. While still maintaining the sound fans have come to love, it is an ambitious exploration of 90’s era funk rock and grunge, with modern production that keeps the band relevant and strong after all these years.
