BEIGE is Mattias Mimoun’s debut solo piano album: an intimate, elegant and cinematic collection of original compositions born during lockdown, recorded in a single day in the studio. Ten original pieces are joined by a sensitive reinterpretation of Bill Evans’ Blue in Green. Blending neo-classical, jazz and instrumental pop, BEIGE explores suspended moments, soft light and elusive emotions. Somewhere between Erik Satie’s minimalist intimacy and Bill Evans’ harmonic lyricism, the album reflects Mattias Mimoun’s unique vision of the piano: free, poetic and without boundaries. Mattias began playing piano at six and developed an instinctive approach to the instrument, learning music by ear from records, films and television alongside his classical studies. His teenage discovery of jazz and Bill Evans opened the door to improvisation and harmonic freedom. Later immersed in DJ culture and electronic music, he developed his signature “DJ set on piano”, performing everything from Chopin and jazz standards to Daft Punk, rap classics and club anthems on a Steinway. His collaborations have included Polo & Pan, Keren Ann, DJ Pone, Lolo Zouaï, Keren Ann, Coco Jones, DVNO and Get A Room. With BEIGE, Mattias brings together the many worlds that have shaped his musical language into his most personal project to date: a delicate, timeless soundtrack for moments when time slows down and the world feels a little softer.
