Alaskan Tapes

Toronto-based composer Alaskan Tapes, a.k.a. Brady Kendall, has quietly architected a prolific catalog with an intense attention to detail. Striking a balance between ambient alchemy, poignant string arrangements, and unexpected guitar conjurations, he continues to forge uncharted territory. Generating north of 100 million streams and enthralling audiences, he only widens the scope of his dynamic vision on his 2023 full- length album, Who Tends a Garden. The new record explores the metaphorical and literal meaning of a garden, whether it’s composed of sound or of the dirt in one’s yard. The concept for the garden theme came to him in an old bookstore on a trip to the Adirondack Mountains in New York, where he came across the book, Who Loves A Garden by Louise Seymour Jones, a title from 1935 filled with old poems and essays on the subject. His musical DNA may encompass everything from heavy metal to drum ‘n’ bass, but all of these elements eventually filtered into one focus. During 2015, he introduced Alaskan Tapes with Beyond the Streets followed by We All Speak in Poems [2016] In Distance We’re Losing [2017], You Were Always an Island [2018], Millions [2020], Views from Sixteen Stories [2020], and For Us Alone [2021]. Along the way, “Notes” eclipsed 28 million Spotify streams, with “Views from Tower Two” amassing 20 million Spotify streams—unprecedented numbers for ambient music. He has also contributed to various films and soundtracks.
