Jonathan Ashenafi

Jonathan Ashenafi is an independent singer/songwriter/producer currently based in guildford, UK, who’s music is centred around relationship. born in germany to parents of ethiopian heritage, however living in the UK for most of his life, Jonathan grew up listening to a wide variety of music. Winans Phase 2, Kirk Franklin, Ron Kenoly, James Blake, Frank Ocean, Hillsong UNITED and a lot of mezmur (ethiopian worship) to name a few. learning the piano & trumpet at 7 and singing in church from the age of 12 meant music was an integral part of Jonathan’s formative years. throughout university, Jonathan started to immerse himself in the live music scene as a lead singer, offering soulful renditions of almost every genre. Jonathan found his feet as a refreshingly genuine performer, who engaged audiences with his tone. Jonathan serves on worship at emmaus road church and is passionate about seeing faith transform cultural norms and set people free from themselves. Jonathan continues to craft his sound today, staying close to melodies that give room for soulful licks and prompts listeners to introspection.
