Carl Gari

Carl Gari is a German trio - Jonas Yamer, Till Funke, Jonas Friedlich - that blends acoustic and synthetic timbres into dubbed-out grooves, carving out a distinctive voice of their own. Moving between techno, drum’n’bass, drone, downbeat and guitar-driven forms like post-rock and wave, they prioritize atmosphere and tension over genre conventions. Known for intense live performances, they have appeared at Berlin Atonal, ICA London, Rewire, Draaimolen, Fusion Festival and Haus der Kunst. Yamer and Funke form the core of production and songwriting, shaping psychedelic compositions through extended studio sessions, while on stage the trio operates as a tightly connected unit. A defining chapter is their collaboration with Abdullah Miniawy , beginning in 2015. Their debut Darraje (The Trilogy Tapes, 2016) was named by NPR among the year’s best releases. The conceptual album The Act of Falling from the 8th Floor (AD93, 2019) received broad critical acclaim. In 2020, they contributed to Berlin Atonal’s More Light vinyl box set. During the pandemic, they recorded a live session at Haus der Kunst, later released as Between the Bullet and the Front Sight, Casting Lots. Their self-titled double vinyl album Carl Gari is soon out on Molten Moods, featuring Polygonia, Dälek, Coby Sey, Simon Popp and Sensational.
