Ghost Train Orchestra

Known for leading various incarnations of his avant chamberesque folk-country outfit Beat Circus, Florida-born, Boston-based trumpeter , bandleader, composer, arranger, and singer/songwriter Brian Carpenter is also the principal driving force behind NYC's Ghost Train Orchestra. A resident of the Boston area since 2001, Carpenter increasingly devoted more focus on Ghost Train Orchestra, assembled in 2006 to perform at the 90th anniversary of Arlington's Regent Theatre and would become the seed for their critically-acclaimed debut Hothouse Stomp and sophomore album Book of Rhapsodies, re-imaginings of the music of 1920s and 1930s jazz composers. In 2019 Ghost Train Orchestra began a collaboration with the trailblazing Kronos Quartet and guests including Jarvis Cocker, Joan As Police Woman, Karen Mantler, Marissa Nadler, Rufus Wainwright, and Sam Amidon reimagining the music of visionary composer Moondog and resulting in their fifth album Songs and Symphoniques. In 2024 David Byrne began a collaboration with Ghost Train Orchestra to help build and arrange several songs he had been working on. Working from David’s demo recordings, the band constructed arrangements of the songs for small orchestra. Kid Harpoon was tapped to produce the record and the band recorded performances of the songs over nine days at Power Station in NYC, resulting in the record Who Is The Sky? to be released Sept 4 2025 on Matador Records. ~ Dave Lynch, Rovi
