Biography & Metadata

Ryan Holladay is a composer, sound artist, and producer based in Los Angeles. He frequently collaborates with his brother, Hays Holladay, and director Zach Cregger. He grew up in Virginia before moving to New York City and later to California. The Holladay brothers' film scores span horror with titles like Weapons and Resident Evil, comedy with the Happy Madison movie Roommates, and documentaries like Class Action Park. They began their musical careers with projects like Sirhan Sirhan (along with Cregger), Bluebrain and The Epochs. They then shifted their focus to exploring the intersection of sound art and emerging technologies. They’ve created immersive sound installations for clients including Dolby, Bose, and the U.S. Embassy in London—where their work is now part of the permanent art collection. In 2010, they pioneered the concept of the “location-aware album,” composing music mapped to physical spaces via mobile app, with projects in Central Park and the National Mall. The Washington Post called their debut “magical—like using GPS to navigate a dream.” Ryan’s solo work spans film, podcasts and interactive media. He’s currently scoring and co-producing the video game Abelina, in collaboration with visual artist Gabe Askew. He is a Senior TED Fellow and a graduate of NYU's Steinhardt School.
