Biography & Metadata

Before the creator economy had a name, Somaya Reece was already building an audience online. A Salvadoran Afro-Latina raised in South Central Los Angeles, Somaya is a recording artist, television personality, entrepreneur, and filmmaker whose career has moved between music, entertainment, and business. She began making music after discovering Celia Cruz at seven, later becoming a classically trained violinist and lead violinist. Her music career earned recognition from XXL as a “Female Emcee You Need to Know,” while Def Jam executive Sha Money XL compared her to a female Pitbull. Pitbull later invited Somaya to perform at Calle Ocho following her Latin America tour. Her catalog includes “Descontrol” featuring Lápiz Conciente, which premiered on MTV3, and “Party With the World” and “Fuego,” featured on Bad Girls Club. Her music has also appeared across television, film, and commercial placements, including Love & Hip Hop. Today, Somaya releases music independently while building a larger creative world around it. Her latest single, “Todo Va Estar Bien,” is a Spanish-language record over Afro Beats about reminding yourself that everything will be okay. For Somaya, music is one part of a larger body of work spanning television, film, beauty, fashion, wellness, entrepreneurship, and platforms for women. She continues to create on her own terms, with ownership and longevity at the center.
