Colby Strange

Colby Strange is a fictional musical character created by writer and lyricist Chris Barchuk. Chris writes the lyrics and directs the songs, using AI tools to create Colby's music and voice. Chris started doing this because he wanted people to hear what he was writing. He hopes that eventually a singer, musician or producer might hear something he's written and want to collaborate. Until then, he's using the tools available to him to make sure the songs don't remain just his. There's a lot of Chris in Colby. Many of the stories come directly from his life, including some of the hardest things he's lived through. The stubbornness, humor, imperfections and vulnerability aren't an invented personality; they're Chris. The music moves between outlaw country, Americana and southern rock depending on the song. Some songs kick the door down, while others sit quietly with things that are harder to say. Country is only one kind of music Chris likes to write. When he wants to write neo-soul or conscious hip-hop, he writes TASH. When he's angry and wants to write something more aggressive, he writes punk songs for World Disorder. When he wants to relive his rave and club days, that is the realm of Astral Pixie. Each character lets him write differently without trying to force everything he wants to say through the same sound. Colby Strange isn't a real person and Chris isn't trying to convince anyone that he is. He's a character Chris created to give these songs a voice.
