Biography & Metadata

Litany Blue is a songwriting project moving through eras. It began in warm ethereal rock, passed through gothic wave and neo-psychedelia, and now works in post-punk and motorik — long drives, cold synths, atmospheric guitar. The songs document a life: a marriage, a chosen family thirty years running, obsession and its unwinding, recovery, and the long work of the spirit — candles and thresholds, saints and silence, the ancient faith pressing against a modern life. Over it all hangs a cosmology of two suns, one gold and one blue, and the figure of a man with a candle, walking toward a holy mountain. The current album is Examination: eleven songs laid on an altar — a clockwork heart, two rings, a clock stopped at 11:58. Begin with Postcards. Its sequel, One More Door, is out now — always almost, always next. Litany Blue is written and produced by John Waugh, with an occasional co-conspirator — songs mined from a journal thirty years deep and still being written.
