Biography & Metadata
The genesis of Long A occurred while Richard Jankovich and Albert Kurniawan were touring with their previous band, Big Mother Gig. The four-piece band was booked for a US tour supporting Black Joe Lewis. However, just weeks before the tour, two band members exited, prompting Jankovich and Kurniawan to adapt their set into a "Power Duo" format, utilizing a laptop to fill out their sound. This experience solidified their new approach and laid the groundwork for their collaborative efforts as Long A. These 2 musicians have spent decades in the indie rock world, steeped in collaboration. Across various entities (Big Mother Gig, Burnside Project), Jankovich has collaborated with alternative music royalty: Robyn Hitchcock, Britta Phillips, Steve Kilbey, of Montreal and Glen Phillips to name just a few. Kurniawan’s storied career began in his native Indonesia, followed by a stint in the Omaha indie scene of the mid-’00s, collaborating with members of The Faint, The Get Up Kids, Bright Eyes and zebrahead, in addition to leading his own project, Go Motion.
