Biography & Metadata

Fernando Viciconte was born in Argentina, came of age musically in Los Angeles, and has called Portland, Oregon home since 1994. A 2016 Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee and one of Willamette Week’s 50 most iconic Portland musicians of the last 50 years, he has spent three decades writing songs that don’t flinch – about immigration, identity, survival, and the kind of love and loss that doesn’t clean up easy. His albums move between English and Spanish, between raw alt-country and Argentine rock nacional, between spare acoustic confessionals and full-band electric urgency. He has recorded with Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey of REM, members of Elliott Smith’s band, M. Ward’s band, Richmond Fontaine, and The Delines. His work has drawn praise from Billboard, Magnet, No Depression, Paste, and MSNBC. The Lucky House, produced by longtime collaborator Luther Russell, is out in 2026.
