Biography & Metadata

When the Insane Clown Posse (ICP) emerged from the darkness surrounding Detroit’s underground music scene in the early 90s, the world had yet to imagine the impact that the hardcore hip-hop style spawned by these two artists — Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope — would bring to bear on mainstream music. Shunned by mainstream music players like MTV and castigated in the media, banned from radio airwaves and yanked from the shelves of “conventional” retail outlets, ICP was dealt a hand that seemed destined for swift and certain failure. Instead, the duo amassed a following of millions of fans endearingly called “Juggalos” and smashed through the ceiling of music industry expectation. Now, the Dark Carnival rises again as ICP returns with a brand-new album, The Naught — the sixth Joker’s Card of the second deck. The Naught is a dark and provocative chapter in the ever-expanding mythology of the Joker’s Cards. Twisted with wicked rhymes, carnival chaos, and deep introspection, The Naught confronts the shadows within—the part of the soul we pretend isn’t there. "The Naught is the embodiment of everything we hide from ourselves," says Violent J. "This Joker’s Card doesn’t judge — it reveals. It reflects what’s inside all of us when no one’s watching." Shaggy 2 Dope adds, "Every Joker’s Card is a message. This one? It hits harder than most. Catch ICP on tour through the end of October & visit PsychopathicRecords.com for more info.
