Biography & Metadata
Widely regarded as pioneers of new wave, Blondie helped redefine the boundaries of popular music, drawing on punk, pop, disco and other influences. Their impact continues to resonate with new generations of artists and audiences, extending beyond music into fashion, film, art and popular culture. Long before genre-blending became the pop standard, Blondie fused their sound with disco and synthpop to reach timeless success with songs such as “Call Me” and “Heart of Glass”, while their 1980 hit "Rapture" became the first single featuring rap vocals to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile frontwoman Debbie Harry redefined the representation of women in music, pairing a punk-rock attitude with high-fashion and cinematic glamour. Now the band are back with their long-awaited twelfth studio album High Noon. A broad mix of sounds, ideas and collaborators, rock & roll and punk sit alongside dance and Latin rhythms, with contributions from Johnny Marr, Glen Matlock, Zach Condon of Beirut, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius. High Noon also marks the final recording of Blondie co-founding drummer Clem Burke. Following Burke’s passing, the record has taken on additional meaning for the band and serves as a document of one of rock music’s longest-running creative partnerships. Blondie’s longevity has cemented their status as icons of rock music, and High Noon shows why: the band remains as curious and open to new ideas and sounds as they have been from the beginning.
