UMX' also known as 'Umar Mukhtar' is a defiant interdisciplinary artist from Kashmir, rapidly emerging as one of the most versatile and distinct voices in the region's contemporary art scene. As a Multi-Genre Musician, Rapper, Singer-Songwriter, Composer, and Visual Artist, UMX refuses to be boxed in, striving instead to create a unique blend of artistic expressions that reflect his uncompromising ideology and vision. UMX has risen as a distinct outlier and a flagship representative for South Kashmir in Kashmir Hip Hop 'KHH' scene. Born and raised in Vejibyor (Bijbehara), he is one of the few artists from the region to achieve such rapid traction in the rap game by bridging the gap between peri-urban narratives and mainstream appeal. UMX’s sound is a sophisticated fusion of multilingual lyricism—delivered effortlessly in Koshur (Kashmiri), Urdu, and English. He employs a dynamic, genre-bending approach that navigates through Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, Acoustic, and Electronic landscapes. His artistic journey is defined by resilience. Growing up in an orthodox home in Vejibyor devoid of musical influences, UMX had to carve his own path, teaching himself to push the boundaries of expression despite significant cultural and environmental challenges.
