Born Bamidele Brett Akinbi, Cheque is a Nigerian melodic rapper and Afropop artist celebrated for his distinctive fusion of Trap, Hip Hop, and Afrobeats. He is known for his emotive delivery and relatable songwriting and through hunger, resilience and evolution, has built a sound that speaks directly to youth culture, blending singable melodies with sharp rap flows and vibrant rhythms. Cheque was discovered by Phyno in 2019, and subsequently signed to the Penthauze Music which earmarked his beginning of his professional music journey. He first broke into the mainstream in 2020 with the Razor EP, led by his hit single “Zoom” which announced him as the bold new sensation with extraordinary rhythms of unique melodic-rap and lyrical brilliance entrenched in the totality of conscious emotive yet African music. Bravo, his debut album, was released in 2021. This was a defining project that solidified his name and place in the industry with records “History” and “Dangerous” showcasing versatility, confidence and storytelling depth. This album, which featured superstar colleagues like Fireboy DML and Ayra Starr, marked a major milestone, expanding his reach across Africa and beyond. Over the years, Cheque has gone ahead to release more EPs, singles as well as successful collaborations with his most recent feature appearance on Phyno’s Full Time Job album where they collaborated on the smash hit, “Back Outside”.
