Biography & Metadata
DrumSmoke is a Charlotte, North Carolina–based drummer, producer, and creative curator known for explosive groove, fearless improvisation, and a deep connection to live performance culture. Raised in a musical lineage rooted in North Carolina’s gospel, soul, and hip-hop traditions, DrumSmoke began performing at just five years old and has spent his life immersed in rhythm. His musical journey has taken him through church stages, jazz clubs, rock venues, and international stages. Early professional work included cruise ship residencies with B.B. King’s Blues Club through Beale Street Blues Company, performing nightly across a wide range of American roots, blues, and soul music. In Charlotte, DrumSmoke became a key figure in the city’s live music ecosystem through work with Quentin Talley and The Soul Providers, blending jazz, funk, hip-hop, and spoken word into powerful live performances. A longtime collaborator and drummer for Hannibal Buress, DrumSmoke’s creative circle expanded into new territory, leading to collaborations with producer and pianist Rob Araujo. During his years performing with Lucky Five, he was mentored by renowned drummer Robert “Sput” Searight. He is also the founder of the Charlotte music collective MENASTREE and creator of Smoke Sessions, a live music experience merging musicianship, car culture, and lifestyle aesthetics into a growing movement rooted in rhythm, improvisation, and community.
