members of members of. baltimore. fun. thank you. Bay of Fundy forward by Erik: These songs were mostly composed in March 2020 as the world became even smaller and frightening. I say composed because the songs were created on the spot, recorded frantically on a Tascam to just get anything and everything just out. While isolated in the basement, I would gaze at Gordon Bok’s “Bay of Fundy” record, something picked up on a whim at the Parkville Savers months prior. The record just happened to be lying about in the mess. It came with a lovely Folkways song book and, when needing lyrics, I'd pick up the book, randomly turn the pages, and throw together quick cut-ups for lyrics. Other times, I just took complete lines from Bok’s songs. It was what was literally closest to me at the time during a time it felt hard reaching out for anything. Listening now, I hear images of water and maritime escape, little sleepy seaside towns seeping into the songs, either in words or just general vibe. To me, at least, something that maybe catches a bit of the feeling felt in 2020. Little Bird was composed on a porch in early May 2020 after watching a Goldfinch flirt among the jewel weed. It was a weird time and I made a lot of music to cope and entertain and pass the time and I thought I’d share some of it. Clare sings on the last song. Thanks for listening. Special thanks to Joe Mitra @wiredwrists mastering and smoothing out these very rough recordings.
