What launches a hit song through the airwaves? DJ, producer and artist D Howell knows it’s all about the musical chemistry. It’s the reason why he’s invested so much time & energy into mixing different instruments, sounds & styles to create his ever-evolving brand of pop reggae, making Howell an in-demand producer for today’s top music stars. Originally from Spanish Town, Jamaica, Howell grew up listening to music legends Sly & Robbie, as well as 90’s reggae dancehall artists Beenie Man & Bounty Killer. His first beats were knocked out on makeshift drums by collecting old paint cans and creating his own rhythm. Those original beats helped him find his passion as a DJ when he hit high school. He started dreaming of creating music using his reggae roots that could be sold—& loved—the world over. But Howell knew he’d have to leave his island home to really chase the kind of global success he was looking for. In 2002, he moved to North America with nothing but a suitcase, determined to start building his music empire from scratch. In 2010, Howell produced the single “Wine Bounce” with fellow Jamaican- born reggae artist Dominant & featuring Nicky B. The collaboration was a hit. It was picked up by Universal Music & featured on a compilation album, launching Howell’s producing career alongside Sean Paul, Elephant Man and Sarani. Since then, Howell has teamed up with Karl Wolf (“Fall in Love”), Danny Fernandes (“Party”, Sean Paul (“Time to Party”).
