Biography & Metadata

Tennishu is a Richmond, Virginia-based rapper, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work moves between hip-hop, jazz, soul, funk, and experimental music. A member of the internationally touring ensemble Butcher Brown since 2017, Tennishu brings a background in improvisation and live performance to an independent recording career built on creative freedom and self-directed production. Performing on saxophone, trumpet, drums, bass, and vocals, Tennishu approaches music from multiple perspectives, often handling songwriting, instrumentation, production, and mixing himself. His recordings combine the spontaneity of live musicianship with sampling, unconventional arrangements, and character-driven storytelling. His independent catalog includes More To The Story (2024), More Of The Story (2025), and ReadyForJapan (2026), reflecting an evolving approach to hip-hop and instrumental composition. His latest album, American Bullshit, arrives November 13, 2026, through his independent label, James Infinite. Across ten tracks, the project explores ambition, identity, violence, community, and the contradictions of American life through immersive production and shifting lyrical perspectives. Whether performing internationally with Butcher Brown or creating independently at his Richmond studio, Tennishu continues to explore the possibilities of music without committing to a single genre or creative role.
