Biography & Metadata

“A Poet documenting the messy miracle of being alive” - Odyssey Magazine David Keenan is an Irish songwriter / storyteller from the border town of Dundalk with a raw body of work that is as diverse as it is captivating. From those early online demos to an Irish number one album he has been writing and releasing a uniquely independent well of music and lyric writing since he was a kid. With an emphasis on lyrics and live performance Keenan has toured relentlessly both solo and with his bands & has guested with the likes of: Hozier, David Gray, Glen Hansard, Counting Crows, Richard Thompson & Rodrigo y Gabriela. In 2025 he composed the soundtrack to the Lionsgate film ‘Salvable’ while the bilingual documentary ‘Words on Canvas’ about his life and process screened at film festivals around the world. Following on from the critically acclaimed Modern Mythologies he released the spontaneous nine track ‘Just for today’ which was recorded and released in the same day in February 26. ‘Just for today’ is of miraculously high quality for a project made in mere hours (6). It’s the type of folk album others would work for months and months on. - Far Out Magazine ‘Modern Mythologies’ 4 Stars - Mojo 4 Stars - ‘Albums of the Year’ - Sunday Times UK 4 Stars & Album of the Week - UK Mail on Sunday 5 Stars - ‘Album of the week’ - Irish Mail on Sunday 9/10 “ My Album of the Year” John Walshe Hot Press Magazine
