Biography & Metadata

Lasairfhíona (pronounced Lah-sah-reena) is a singer/songwriter deeply rooted in the sean-nós singing tradition of Inis Oírr, the Aran Islands. Her innovative approach to Irish music and distinctive interpretation of traditional song have been celebrated in her albums An Raicín Álainn, Flame of Wine, and One Penny Portion. Her new release, Mo Róisín Dubh will feature a number of big sean-nós songs alongside original compositions. The result of Lasairfhíona's work is a magical mosaic of sound, as refreshing and unpredictable as a showery day on the Aran Islands. She has the rare ability to sing songs from an ancient Irish tradition while being equally at home with contemporary material. She participated as an actor and singer in Martin McDonagh’s award winning film The Banshees of Inisherin (2022). “A pure breath of everything that is beautiful about Ireland.” — BBC Folk & Acoustic Reviews “Her cheerful sincerity, her gentle self-deprecation and, most importantly, her peerless talent.” — The Sunday Times “Lasairfhíona creates many different moods in these songs: playful, beguiling, mournful, seductive, innocent, direct, oblique. But there's something else here, something indefinable... a blessing... like a word that was lost, its sound and meaning restored to us again.” — Gabriel Rosenstock
