KENJI KIHARA

KENJI KIHARA is a Japanese composer and ambient artist based in Nishi-Izu, a quiet seaside town in Shizuoka. Drawing inspiration from the ocean, wind, and the subtle sounds of everyday life, he creates gentle soundscapes that blend electronic textures with field recordings. His music centers on calmness, warmth, and the beauty of small moments. Under his name KENJI KIHARA, he releases ambient and electronica works through labels in Japan and abroad. As sphontik, he explores chillout and lounge music infused with elements of jazz and Brazilian rhythms. Under his Japanese name 木原健児, he also creates intimate acoustic songs. Beyond his solo releases, he composes music for exhibitions, installations, and spatial environments, and co-founded BGM LAB. with Yuuri Miyauchi to explore the relationship between sound and space.
