Biography & Metadata

Between classical tradition and the freedom of jazz, the Italian pianist, composer, arranger, and producer Paolo Di Sabatino has built a career marked by the fusion of these universes. Born in 1970 in Teramo, he studied piano from childhood under the influence of his father and graduated from the Bari Conservatory at the age of 20 with highest honors. In 1994, he completed his jazz studies at the same conservatory and released his first album Harém as the Paolo Di Sabatino Quartet. After teaching and publishing educational materials such as 15 Pieces for Young Pianists, he went to Chicago in 1999, where he performed at the Jazz Showcase and signed with Hallway Records, which released Introducing Paolo Di Sabatino. The following year, he released Threeo with John Patitucci and Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, consolidating his international presence. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with other major players on the jazz scene, such as Bob Mintzer, Peter Erskine, and John Abercrombie, as well as renowned Italian artists including Antonella Ruggiero, Mario Biondi, and Fabio Concato. Di Sabatino maintained his intense recording activities through the 2010s and released albums such as Voices (2011), Distant Look (2013), Trace Elements (2014), Sinfonico (2018), and Swing (2019). Professor and coordinator of the jazz department at the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in L’Aquila, he also combines teaching and continuous artistic production, while continuing his collaborations on various projects, maintaining a constant presence on the Italian and international jazz scene. ~ Gisele Ramos, Rovi
