Biography & Metadata

Zelal Gökçe is a Kurdish singer and musician who brings the depth of Kurdish musical tradition into dialogue with the sounds of today. A graduate of the Turkish Music State Conservatory at Istanbul Technical University, her musical journey is shaped by traditional repertoire, cross-cultural collaborations, and her distinctive vocal expression. Her musical journey includes projects such as Koma Azad, Koma Asmin, Şahiya Stranan, Homegrown Istanbul, and Ten Songs in Ten Languages, alongside concerts and collaborations across Türkiye and Europe. She performed “Zerê Zerê Zera Keyê” for Kazım Öz’s film Zer. Her debut solo album, Solîn, was released in 2012, followed by a series of independent releases and new musical works. Today, Gökçe continues to reinterpret melodies rooted in Kurdish musical tradition through her own musical world. On her new single “Nînno,” bağlama and percussion meet the powerful textures of electronic music, transforming a traditional song of admiration for the beloved into rhythm, movement, and dance. Rooted in tradition without being confined by it, her music carries the emotion of the past into the sound of today
