RPBLiK: A real dude, making real music in a world where AI tools have suddenly made everyone an “artist.” RPBLiK is the solo project of singer/songwriter Benji Utseth Perdue. Despite the name, RPBLiK isn’t a political statement. The moniker, originally used as a truncated signature for Benji’s artwork and graffiti, is an evolved symbol and a nod to his former band: Noise Republic. Yet the lyrical themes in RPBLiK’s music inevitably reflect the chaos of modern life. Division, conflict, recreational outrage, blurred perceptions of reality, personal health battles, and fractured relationships are all transfused into RPBLiK’s lyrics, playing out like an audio diary of someone watching the world collapse in real time. Musically, RPBLiK is rooted in anthemic melodic punk rock, drawing particular influence from bands like Sum 41, Bad Religion, and Alkaline Trio, yet unconstrained by genre boundaries. Orchestral textures, choral passages, trip-hop rhythms, and electronic elements often serve as connective tissue and opportunities to explore new musical territory whilst remaining, fundamentally... punk. Armed with little more than a couple of guitars, GarageBand, and a handful of cheap plug-ins, RPBLiK exists to prove that you don’t need expensive gear, or an AI prompt, to create powerful music that connects with others. The artworks that adorn his releases are also hand-painted, original RPBLiK pieces: a final effort to retain human creativity in an increasingly digital world.
